Hello This is my first time blogging so we'll see how this goes. I just graduated from [redacted] University with a degree in Computer Science. I ran into Gocorps at the 2022 Urbana Conference and got reconnected with then after graduation. As part of cross-cultural training before leaving for the field, I had to read “When Helping Hurts” by Steve Corbett and Brian Fikkert. It’s an incredible book that provides a true definition of poverty, explains why many of our attempts to alleviate poverty end up making the situation worse, and shows how poverty can truly be alleviated without causing so much harm. It was special for me to read it because I had the opportunity to hear Brian Fikkert introduce all these ideas at my church's Culture Conference last year. The Joy of Community
Welcome everyone to my February recap. I'm super excited to announce that my Visa application was just approved, and now I am all set to launch to the field! Hard, But Worth It
I arrived back home in Michigan a few days ago after two weeks of pre-field training in Chicago. Pre-field training was the last big thing on my to-do list before packing my bags and heading to my placement. These past two weeks have laid a foundation for what my time overseas hopefully will be: hard, but worth it. A few months ago I had a meeting with my sending organization about reevaluating my launch date. Due to some issues with getting my passport/application, I am no longer going to be launching this month. Everyone told me this is a good thing. What comes to mind when you first think of worship? For me, it’s music consisting of a modern contemporary style band on Thursday nights on my college campus. Or the Brandon Lake songs that seem to overtake the congregation on Sunday morning corporate worship services. Preparing For Launch
