"All Narnia shall be Renewed"
And now all Narnia shall be renewed. But come. We have no time to lose. (Aslan, from C. S. Lewis' Prince Caspian) This is one of my favorite scenes in The Chronicles of Narnia. Lucy meets Aslan, who seems to have been absent for so long, with a sweet reunion. In Narnia the trees have fallen asleep, evil men rule, and many Narnians live in fear for their way of life. Many have begun to lose hope that Aslan is real, or that he cares. Lucy expresses her confusion: "I thought you'd come roaring in and frighten all the enemies away---like last time." (Chapter 10) Aslan's plan is not to come… Read moreFebruary Update
Hey Everyone! This has been an awesome and eventful month. Ministry My visa paperwork arrived in country and has been making its way through the translation agency and the government agencies for approval. The directorate of religion notified my team leader that they wanted a few more documents for my visa which I got to them recently, so I am hoping that it doesn’t delay the visa process much more (preferably not at all). All the visa paperwork is out of my hands at the moment until it finishes making its way through the government agencies. I’m currently at 85.8% of my… Read more'Do You Feel Yourself Sufficient?'
'Welcome, Prince,' said Aslan. 'Do you feel yourself sufficient to take up the Kingship of Narnia?''I - I don't think I do, Sir,' said Caspian. 'I am only a kid.'Good,' said Aslan. 'If you had felt yourself sufficient, it would have been proof that you were not.' (Aslan and Prince Caspian, from C. S. Lewis' Prince Caspian) In just over three months I will be packing my bags and headed to the Middle East! Most of my fundraising is done (praise God!), and I have been blessed with a few months to prepare for what is next. There are so many things to learn and so many ways I am not yet ready. So… Read moreJanuary Update
Hey Everyone! Ministry Update Big praise of the month is that I got my paperwork back from the State Department! This was a big thing that I have been waiting on for a while in order to move on to the next step in the visa process. I got it mailed out to my team in Eastern Europe for the next step of going through a translation agency and 3 government agencies for approval. I learned that this step takes roughly 6 weeks, which is longer than I originally anticipated, so my departure date will be late March, maybe early April. My trip to the Embassy in DC was a success, and I got the… Read more
"There are many paths to tread / through shadow to the edge of night / until the stars are all alight"
You were likely taught an incorrect understanding of the Bible. Bold statement, I know, but I say it because I learned only last night that I was taught an incorrect understanding of the Bible. Or rather, it might be more accurate to say that I had never really learned the Bible properly. In any case, I was missing something, and you very well might be missing something key to understanding the Bible. What was I missing? I was missing the whole purpose of the Bible! "Christopher, how could you miss the whole purpose of the Bible? Aren't you a missionary, shouldn't you know that already… Read more"We're not there, we're here"
But after all, what's the good? We're not there: we're here. And we jolly well can't get there. Or can we?" (Jill Pole from C. S. Lewis, The Silver Chair) Do you know what I've always wanted to do? Be a missionary. Do you know what I have always NOT wanted to do? Be a mobilizer. Be the person who is not there, but here, even though they'd most often jolly well rather be there! I've met a few people who lived overseas for a while and loved it, and God asked them to surrender their life overseas without ever surrendering their desire to see God at work in the whole world. I was (okay, still am… Read more
