I want to be honest with you all. I didn’t realize how much anxiety was in my heart until I accepted the job with the ministry I'll be working at and began this process. Throughout fundraising and dealing with all the logistics of moving to Ecuador, I’ve struggled a lot with strong emotional ups-and-downs that come from wanting to control everything to make sure everything goes well. But when I’m hit with the reality that I can’t control everything and can’t make sure everything will go well, I am filled with anxiety and feel paralyzed.
The Lord has sustained me and spoken to me through a lot of time on my knees before Him, studying His Word, listening to the wise advice of my parents, talking with my loved ones, and being still in His Presence.
God—so gently—has shown me time and time again that what I’m really trying to do is take His place. In my moments of anxiety, I am living from a lack of trust in Him, His character, and His superior wisdom, despite having seen His kind hand and faithful love throughout my whole life. There is nothing and no one more secure, stable, and trustworthy than the Lord… why am I trying to build my life on my own strength and knowledge instead of on the firm Rock that He is?
With all that said, I have another song to recommend to you: "Un día a la vez" by Majo y Dan (the song is in Spanish but the title in English is: “One Day at a Time”). Majo said this is the most vulnerable and transparent song they’ve ever released; it comes from a poem she wrote when she was going through the worst period of anxiety she’s ever experienced. God spoke directly to my heart through this song and showed me that He walks with each one of His children one foot after the other; I hope it is a blessing to you as well.
