Unity in the Gospel
As I ended my time in Mexico with Avance, I was encouraged to think about what I had learned about cross-cultural living and ministry. I immediately thought about how different cultures have their own beautiful aspects and how each one adds something new to the kingdom of heaven. When the path seems too hard…
Has there ever been a time where you think that God is asking too much of you? The sacrifice is too big, the work is too hard, and you feel that your life would be better off if you took back the reigns? Yeah me too… That’s hard for me to admit, but it’s true. Best Practices for learning a new language
Part of my time at the Center for Intercultural Training included a two-week Second Language Acquisition (SLA) course. SLA taught me a lot about the best ways to learn a new language. One good way to start learning a new language is with a language helper. A language helper is typically a native speaker of the language you are learning. They are there to help you learn vocabulary and how the language sounds, but they are not teaching you as a tutor. The learner is in charge of planning and directing the sessions. 3 Things to Remember in Transition
Over the past few months, I have had to learn how to transition well and learn how to wait. For the first time in my life, I didn’t have school starting in the fall. I struggled to find my purpose and honestly didn’t know what to do with myself. I was sad to not be going back to UMHB and felt a deep desire for the community that I had there.
