Jeanne - Africa Updates

Class of 2019
Anti-Human Trafficking Strategist in Africa
Track: Compassion - Justice track
Region: Africa - Sub-Saharan
Through the hardest and most vulnerable times of my life, Jesus gave me strength. In my brokenness, He made me whole, gave me hope and gave me freedom. I want to share this kind of freedom and salvation through Jesus Christ with those who are enslaved both physically and spiritually. I will be going to Africa and starting an anti-human trafficking ministry in the capital city of the country. This will include lots of relationship-building at first, then lead to raising awareness, providing prevention, and aiding victims. Through Jesus, we will empower women and children to lead a new life free from abuse and slavery, and full of abundance and joy.

Failed Dream

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Africa - Sub-Saharan

In many ways, it feels like a failed first few months in my designated country. I planned to spread the word about how evil human-trafficking is, I wanted to rescue girls from bad situations and teach them skills to make a living. Reality has really kicked me down - I can hardly have a conversation let alone make a speech about human-trafficking, can someone explain how I can rescue girls from a trafficking situation (in a third world country I've never been before??), and I don't know any skills to teach others (not ones that are sustainable for people living in… Read more >>

When Following God Feels Like Brokenness

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Africa - Sub-Saharan

God made it very clear that He wanted me to go on this mission to Africa. With the passion He poured in my heart, the confirmation of everyone around me, His whispers and shouts, and the thousands of dollars He provided me with in a matter of weeks – it was obvious. I’m called to Africa. The weeks before my departure for language study in France, reality hit me and I realized what a huge thing I was stepping into. I didn’t want to do it… But I felt God ask me, “Will you follow me?“ and of course I will God, I love you. So I left.  I’ve been gone for eight weeks now, and though there are… Read more >>

Hinds Feet on High Places

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Africa - Sub-Saharan

Hinds Feet on High Places is a book I've recently read. In this story, Much-Afraid seeks God by going on a journey to the High Places, but along the way the Shepherd leads her to the Valley of Losses. There is a lot of heartbreak and loneliness and fear in this valley. She says, “How could one follow a Person who asked so much, who demanded such impossible things, who took away everything?” Like Much-Afraid, I am feeling loss – loss of my home, loss of my family, loss of my friends, loss of everything that is familiar. Going on the mission field for me very much feels like walking through the… Read more >>

If you had told me a year ago

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Africa - Sub-Saharan

If you had told me a year ago everyone God would place in my life and everything He would plant in my heart this past year, I would not have believed you. I think back on that late autumn night driving home with my mom. I got a text with the GoCorps website and read the anti-human trafficking strategist position open in Africa. I had never heard of the country before that, but with each sentence I read I felt my heart grow heavier and heavier. It was a simple and peaceful tugging from my Jesus. Prior to that I had so much in mind of exactly what I wanted in a missions position and in an… Read more >>

Little Did She Know

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Africa - Sub-Saharan

It was fifth grade. My mom was tucking me into bed one night. As I pictured people in other countries who didn't know Jesus, I whispered to her, "Mom, I want to be a missionary when I'm older." She replied, "We'll get you there." It makes me shakey to think back on that night when God first stirred my heart for the nations. I see a young girl with a heart that just wanted to help people. Little did she know she had to go through a lot of hardship before she got to that mission field. But she would eventually learn that through all the pain and brokenness Jesus would be there.… Read more >>
