Different Rhythms

Hey y'all! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Today has marked a month of being in East Africa.  You want to know the truth? I’m exhausted. I tried to do things on my own and it came back to bite me. I thought I had the energy on my own to socialize with what feels like a hundred new people a day. I thought I had it in me to show love and grace to those I encounter. I thought I could fight the attacks of the enemy on my own. Maybe I didn’t say all of these things aloud, but by action, it’s what I believed. I spent some much-needed time alone to reflect and pray. I was reminded of… Read more >>

Meet Me Here

Jesus calls the dead to rise. In exchange for our brokenness, he gives us a new identity. He does what seems impossible. How can what is dead show signs of life again? Does a plant reach its full potential if it is cut from its source of nourishment? Yet, this is what He does. He gives us new roots and replenishes us from a well that never runs dry. Freedom is spoken over us and we no longer have to bear the weight of our shortcomings. Instead, we can run to our Father who invites us with open arms. He is calling us to more. He invites us into a celebration of what He is doing not only in… Read more >>

The Sun Always Rises

November is here and the year is almost over. Less than 30 days until I launch to East Africa. I have been in pre field training the last month and have two more weeks to go. I decided to write a poem vs the novel I could write of all I've learned. Something I am relearning is walking in my new identity. Jesus has transformed me and it's okay to walk in it.  Thanks for reading. Until next time friends.   Change is the forever horizon I see ahead  Mountains and valleys I will face Reluctantly I trudge forward Still, the sun will rise    You have ruined… Read more >>

Lay it Down

You know that annoying feeling when someone tries to explain something you already know? In Luke 5 Jesus asks Simon to put his boat deeper into the sea and lower his nets. Simon had already tried without success. I don't know about you, but if I were Simon I'd tell Jesus to quit playing. Can you imagine the audacity of a carpenter to tell a professional fisherman how to fish?! Honestly, I'd probably roll my eyes and take some time to explain how fishing really works.  I’ve been traveling this last month or so for trainings that have laid the foundation for… Read more >>

I bless the rains down in Africa

*I know. Toto reference? so original* Remember when I told myself to not hold on to things too tightly?  What an important lesson to learn over and over again. Like last month, when the plan went out the window. More like ran out the window.  It turns out I'm skipping continents and moving over to Northeast Africa.  Plans change, but our God does not. It all somehow fits together. I sure don't have the master plan, but I know what the end looks like, and it is beautiful.  Soon, I'll be hopping on a plane to reunite with friends as we go through training together. Not long… Read more >>
