6 month reflection

By on Track: Arts Region: Middle East

Hello! I have now been here for six months (the picture is from a different part of the country - not where I actually live), and it feels crazy to think that I am a quarter of my way through my two years here. I wanted to do a reflection on the past six months and some of my favorite experiences and things I've learned. If you are reading this and are deciding whether or not to move overseas through Go Corps, I hope this is an encouragement and helps you imagine some of the exciting things that could be in store for you!  In no particular order: Language learning is a source of both my… Read more >>

God's Provision in Loneliness

By on Track: Arts Region: Middle East

One of my biggest fears before moving to my new country was that I would be lonely. Because of recent issues with residence permits, my team is now much smaller than it was in the past. Two months before I arrived another team member got her residence permit application rejected, meaning that my team would now consist only of me and a young family. Because of this, I was nervous that I would feel lonely, and that it would be difficult for me to make friends with other people my age.  However, God has been faithful to provide. Initially, I did feel very lonely when I got here. But in… Read more >>

Featured story By on Track: Arts Region: Middle East

I wanted to share some thoughts and reflections from my fundraising journey. I know that the thought of fundraising can be intimidating and a potential barrier to saying yes to going overseas. I was nervous to begin fundraising, but now that I'm on the other side of it I wanted to share some encouragement!  First, I surprisingly enjoyed the fundraising process. It was encouraging to connect with people from so many different areas of my life, and I found that it brought a lot of closure in my transition from college and living in America to life overseas. For example: I met with my… Read more >>

The Adventure Begins!

By on Track: Arts Region: Middle East

Merhaba (hello)!  I arrived here almost two weeks ago, and thought I would share a few highlights! In no particular order, here are a few things that have stood out to me: Discovering a beautiful place to walk by the sea, which is only a fifteen minute walk from my apartment  Trying local food  Going to my neighborhood's local bazaar. It's every Thursday, and is set up on side streets covering several blocks. It can be overwhelming, but it's also a neat way to experience more of the culture!  Starting language school and meeting my classmates.  Becoming comfortable… Read more >>

Sam's Adventures: Season 1, Episode 1 (My Story!)

Featured story By on Track: Arts Region: Middle East

Hi! My name is Samantha (or at least that's my blog name haha). I want to introduce myself, and share what led me to apply for GoCorps, and ultimately say yes to tithing my career! I recently graduated from college with a double major in dance and psychology. While I have been a Christian for almost my whole life, college was transformational for me as it taught me more about my faith, and showed me how important my faith was in my life. Something that was particularly influential in my life was a world religions class that I took as an elective. It ended up being one of my favorite classes,… Read more >>
