My letter to future Goers
As I reflect on the past two and a half years of ministry in Mexico, I'm still trying to wrap my head around all that has happened. Almost three years ago, I said yes to God's call to serve as a missionary teacher in Mexico City. I then spent the summer raising support before arriving on the field. I was able to enjoy six months of "normal life" in Mexico before the pandemic hit. I ended up moving back home to the States for nearly ten months doing virtual ministry, before finally returning to Mexico to continue my ministry in-person. If you had asked me earlier this year if I were planning to stay in Mexico past my two-year commitment, I would have told you, "No, I don't think so. I'm returning to the U.S. at the end of the summer to apply for grad school." Now, if you don't know me very well, I am a planner. And I don't mean just planning for the next few weeks or even months, but YEARS. More than just pozole
Recently, my host mom invited me to lunch at her cousins' house. At first, I didn't know where their house was or how long we would be there, but since it was a Sunday afternoon, and this would be a great way to build relationship with my host family, I accepted the invitation. As we all hopped in the car, I asked where we were going (I had no idea until that point). It turned out that their house was in Xochimilco, about 30 minutes away from our house.
