Support My Ministry

My letter to future Goers

By on Track: Teaching Region: Latin America

As I reflect on the past two and a half years of ministry in Mexico, I'm still trying to wrap my head around all that has happened. Almost three years ago, I said yes to God's call to serve as a missionary teacher in Mexico City. I then spent the summer raising support before arriving on the field. I was able to enjoy six months of "normal life" in Mexico before the pandemic hit. I ended up moving back home to the States for nearly ten months doing virtual ministry, before finally returning to Mexico to continue my ministry in-person. Honestly, this is not what I had in mind when I said yes… Read more >>

Not my will, but Yours be done

If you had asked me earlier this year if I were planning to stay in Mexico past my two-year commitment, I would have told you, "No, I don't think so. I'm returning to the U.S. at the end of the summer to apply for grad school." Now, if you don't know me very well, I am a planner. And I don't mean just planning for the next few weeks or even months, but YEARS. Going to graduate school had always been my plan for years, long before I set foot in Mexico, so this was my automatic response whenever someone asked me about my plans after serving in Mexico. Well, it turns out that God has plans… Read more >>

More than just pozole

Recently, my host mom invited me to lunch at her cousins' house. At first, I didn't know where their house was or how long we would be there, but since it was a Sunday afternoon, and this would be a great way to build relationship with my host family, I accepted the invitation. As we all hopped in the car, I asked where we were going (I had no idea until that point). It turned out that their house was in Xochimilco, about 30 minutes away from our house. After driving endlessly through the busy streets of Mexico City, we finally arrived in front of the large gates leading up to the house. My… Read more >>

2020 happened...but God

By on Track: Teaching Region: Latin America

I know this is a cliché at this point, but 2020 has not looked at all like what I had expected. When I returned to the U.S. in late March, I thought it was only temporary; I certainly did not think I would still be in NJ in December. While I have experienced my share of frustrations, disappointments, and challenges since March, I don't want to dwell on things I cannot change. 2020 has undoubtedly been a difficult year, but God has done great things as well, and He deserves the credit. Here are some ways that I've seen God move and answer prayers:   1. Blessing in disguise. In… Read more >>

Not Finished Yet

By on Track: Teaching Region: Latin America

When I first decided to become a missionary, I knew that doing this work would require a lot of flexibility and adaptability on my part. That makes sense. I mean, how else could you navigate through so many changes -- location, culture, language, community, etc. -- all at once? What I didn’t expect was that sometimes, the very nature of your ministry changes as well. Several weeks ago, I had a meeting with the director of BridgeWay (the school where I teach), during which he told me that due to some changes at the school, I wouldn’t be able to return for the next school year. My first… Read more >>
