I know this is a cliché at this point, but 2020 has not looked at all like what I had expected. When I returned to the U.S. in late March, I thought it was only temporary; I certainly did not think I would still be in NJ in December. While I have experienced my share of frustrations, disappointments, and challenges since March, I don't want to dwell on things I cannot change. 2020 has undoubtedly been a difficult year, but God has done great things as well, and He deserves the credit. Here are some ways that I've seen God move and answer prayers:
1. Blessing in disguise. In the months before I returned to the U.S., I was honestly struggling. Returning home for several months gave me perspective and a much-needed respite, so that I could return to Mexico with renewed energy and passion for my ministry.
2. My school community. The students, teachers, and parents at IME (the school where I now work) have demonstrated a great deal of strength and resilience despite such trying circumstances. Many in our school community have experienced loss in various ways, and yet we continue to press forward by God's grace.
Additionally, one of my concerns in the beginning of the school year was how I would build relationships with my students via online classes, but God has faithfully answered that prayer. Despite the physical distance and the limited amount of time we have together, we've been able to connect and get to know each other. Praise God!
3. Nos vemos, Mexico! One of the hardest things about 2020 was that my return to Mexico kept getting delayed, and the waiting period became longer and longer. As eager as I was to return, I understood that we were still in the middle of a pandemic, and that I needed to make the decision carefully. Through prayer and conversations with people, God provided me with wisdom on when would be the best time to go back. I am excited to announce that I will officially return to Mexico on January 10, 2021! Upon my return, I will move in with a new host family in a neighborhood much closer to the school.
