Hello! My name is Matt McCann! I'm a Canadian that has a Minnesota driving license - I'm sure an accent even leaked from that sentence. I enjoy soccer, rock climbing, canoe trips, and really everything with friends. I've been in Peru for over a year now and would encourage everyone to experience another culture for a period of time. Beyond the amazing (but not always easy) personal experiences, God will put things in you and in the world on display a tad bit brighter (again, awesome, but not always easy). It is totally worth it. And last but not nearly the least, fellow Goer Sophie McCann and I are related - she is my beautiful wife.

My Letter to Potential and Future Goers
Posted on November 30, 2020
I will never forget the first few days that GoCorps was introduced to me and my then girlfriend, now wife, Sophie. The amount of peace, excitement, and clarity the Holy Spirit brought to us was a total gift. Well, that’s a slight simplification. With a lot of prayer, talking to family and friends, and time weighing the pros and cons, we knew the best option forward was pursuing missions in Peru. Whether that was coincidental missions nights, having Peru pop up everywhere, or listening to wise leaders in our lives, all directions pointed towards GO. I’m not sure if you’ve already passed by... I posted this on my personal WordPress blog for our supporters, but the more I think about it, the more I see God's hand in the difficult process and wanted to put it up here too. Last month, on April 15th, we made the hard decision to return home during this time of uncertainty. One-week prior we dedicated a week for prayer and fasting on what to do in regards with ministry as well as if we should stay in Peru or come home. God didn’t speak any big and clear words, but He did us this ever-increasing trust that whatever would happen, He would have our back. From that week we created four... Read more
Cultural Learning

I love learning. Honestly, since as long as I can remember I have enjoyed school. Going to the cool museum or historical place is often a necessary stop on a vacation. The majority of the books read are non-fiction. Daily, I receive newsletters on technology, economics, and politics. Throughout all of these moments of reading, listening or seeing I am very aware of the learning process. Here in Peru that still exists – learning Spanish, how to get places, ministry tools, hobbies – but tons of learning comes on the fly. Kinda like when we were all kids. After enough time and traveling to other... Read moreDreaming Big

Since Thanksgiving my wife, Sophie, and I have been fully submerged in both the rainy and holiday seasons. At home in Wisconsin during the winter time of year, life slows down but yet it always finds a way to speed up at the same time. This is not a negative thing at all, as we love all Christmas parties, family gatherings, and fun busy stretches of time. However, apart from an amazing 9-day stint with friends over New Year’s, most of each day here has been spent in preparation for the future: reading, listening, learning, studying, and getting better at simply “being”. The vast majority is... Read moreBook Club Dos: Creation

Introducing Evangelical Ecotheology: Foundations in Scripture, Theology, History and Praxis by Daniel L. Brunner, Jennifer L. Butler, and A.J. Swoboda sounds about as intense as a title like that and a book co-written by three authors would have you guess. At times I felt like I was back in Biology III class at Northwestern, and the word document of saved notes brings back memories of preparing for one of those papers that includes a full page bibliography. Not joking, my notes are 11 pages long. All of this to say that while this environmental book was an academic and slow read, it was an... Read more
