School's in Session...

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Europe

What a month this has been. From June to now I feel like life has not been what it usually is for me here, and to an extent that is true. For 7 months prior to this (been here 9 months now), I lived in a different place, had a pretty typical schedule, school and university were still in session, I pretty much knew what I was waking up to every day. But then summer hit. School’s out, interns are here, vacations are on and off, and the World Race sent us not only one amazing team, but two! I’m going to be honest- to tell you I was extremely excited about all this would be a lie. I found from my… Read more >>

Like a Child...

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Europe

“At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying ‘Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?’ And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, ‘Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.’”Matthew 18:1-3 I sit here writing this with a bowl of cut up strawberries smothered in sugar and a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle cup full of iced coffee. But- have no fears- I am an adult! I don’t know why this theme has been sticking out to me lately… but it really has. It may be because school is out for the summer here… Read more >>

"You're going to change so much"

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Europe

That was a common statement I heard this past summer as I was preparing to come here to Ukraine. "Me? Change? I don't think so." But I would nod my head and agree. I like to think I'm at the point of knowing who I am and what kind of person I want to be, so thinking about changing seemed...in all honesty.... stupid to me. But I think I missed the point. It wasn't my identity that was going to change, not my personality, not the core of who I am.... A child of God. So then what was going to change you ask? Well, if it's not who I am that's going to change, it's how I am that may experience… Read more >>

Two Months Ago...

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Europe

I boarded a plane and moved to Ukraine! (I just wrote that, then read it and realized it rhymed.) But wow! Can you believe it? I have been here for two whole months! Some days, I feel like I have been here for years and other days I feel like I just got here an hour ago- but everyday is an adventure. I have been learning a lot about culture, time, people, myself, and God. I wish I could sit here and list out every single thing that I am experiencing, describe it all in perfect detail for you, but I’m not that talented, plus you and I don’t have the time for that. There is also so much that I… Read more >>

Use the Blue Pen...

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Europe

So, a couple more weeks have gone by and Uzhgorod is becoming my home more every day. Last week, I was in Budapest again, this time Tim and Helen came with me! I went to apply for my visa and they came along to explore a new city. Applying for a visa, you would think, is an easy task. Well, I guess that depends on where you are and who you are. I have a great attorney helping me out with all my paper work, which is so awesome because I would have no idea what I was doing without him. I am pretty sure there was a time when he was getting annoyed with me because I called him so much… =].… Read more >>
