15 Months In!
Hi Family! So sorry about the long delay in sending this newsletter to you all. Rest assured I am still alive and more importantly thriving here in SEA. RamadanRamadan has officially begun and that means the city has become more quiet as my Cousin friends and neighbors direct their focus towards reading their Holy Book and attending prayer services more often. Congratulations Family, We have officially been on this journey in SEA for 1 year! Can you believe it? I know I can’t! Thank you all so much for you love, support, and continued prayers. If I could sum up my whole experience with one word it would be learner. Socially I am learning the art of small talk. People here are experts at small talk. I personally can’t stand it. In times when I would rather have a God-versation or learn more about who a person is I often get stuck asking and answering the same questions. At a training back in December we sat in on a workshop that talked about different ways of sharing the Good News (GN) with our local friends. For those of us serving in the Eastern World, HONOR and SHAME are big topics and often times dictate how people differentiate between what is right and wrong. In western contexts when we share the GN we often use words such as redemption, salvation, judgement, and guilt. Well in the Eastern World these words do not have very much weight to them.
