My Letter to Future Goers
Posted on May 4, 2020
Hey hey future goers! My heart goes out to all of you during this turmoil in our world; and, I'm sure, in your own heart as well. I just want to say that all your thoughts and feelings are valid. The LORD knows you, He hears you, and He cares for you. God is a merciful God, and He reveals to us that our fears and anxieties tell us that apart from Jesus we can do nothing. If you're having doubts about whether or not you should continue pursuing this, trust me, pandemic or not, doubt will be your greatest enemy all throughout support raising and even as you live out your 2 years in your field... One day, my friend Oui called me in the middle of the day in need of help to go with her and her colleague to the IDC to visit and give food to a detained asylum seeker. I immediately said yes since I've been wanting to go after hearing all the stories of how inhumane this place is. After seeing the IDC and making my visit, I agree that this place is truly inhumane. Immediately when I spotted my friend Oui, her colleague, Dianne, gave me the name and cell... Read more
Change

We are creatures of change; one example of this is our everchanging bodies that happens the very moment we are in our mother’s womb to the day we whither in the dirt. A shaman came to our house and told my mom to be a Christian. Let me explain. The past 2 ½ weeks has been interesting, in a good way. My mom’s brother and his wife are visiting from Chiang Kham district of Phayao Province, northeastern Thailand. They have been staying with us for the past 2 ½ weeks and they will be here with us until August. It was such a joy to finally get to meet my uncle from Thailand that my mom has always told us about since we were little. One of the cool things that happened with my uncle and aunt being here, is that since the Hmong language has very minimal words to... Read more
Man's Greatest Doom
Posted on June 9, 2018
For the past two weeks, I spent six hours every day (5am-12pm) from Monday to Saturday picking blueberries at an orchard in the California heat with my mom and sister. Of course, I knew what I was getting myself into: less sleep; six hours of standing; a bit of back pain from strapping the blueberry bucket in the front; painful splinters and scratches, bugs, etc.; I wanted to do it anyway for the experience. However, I think I was more than likely influenced by my mom’s hard work and dedication to provide for the family this way. I woke up one morning dragging my feet and grumbling about... Read more
