7.1 Earthquake Hasn’t Shaken My Faith
September 7, 2017. Just shy of midnight, as I was in the bathroom, the earthquake alarm started going off. I heard my Mexican sister shout my name with so much concern, but I didn't hustle out of the bathroom. Growing up in Southern California, I have felt a handful of earthquakes; as a result, I assumed it would be the same here in Mexico. I was very wrong. That 8.1 earthquake, although a couple of states over, was the largest earthquake since 1985, and it was felt here in Mexico City. The lights went off right before the earth below me started to move. You Guys, I Got To Pray For My Uber Driver!
Looking back at my Uber receipts, May 24, 2017 was the first time I rode in Victor's Uber! I remember we connected because he's from Anaheim, and I am from Garden Grove; which are neighboring cities in Southern California. I remember talking with him made me more nostalgic of home because he was naming the names of streets I had familiarity with in Anaheim. The most beautiful thing that I have experienced is grace from my students. I can’t even begin to describe how much grace they have had for me. I’ve never felt humiliated around my students when I spoke Spanish… Read more >>
You Believe In God, But We Depend On God
“You [Americans] believe in God, but we [Africans] depend on God.” This is one of the quotes that has stuck with me since my friend Jordan shared it with me because it’s so true. I, an American, do believe in God and that God is by my side; however, my lifestyle back in the states didn’t give me a reason to depend on God. I wasn’t the wealthiest person in the states, but I definitely wasn’t living paycheck to paycheck. My health was and still is in tact, and I didn’t have any prolonged circumstances which had me desperately depend on God - even while going through my darkest moments. … Read more >>
