Playing Charades 24/7

By on Track: Teaching Region: Latin America

It has been one week since I have arrived to Mexico City. During the first few days, the other missionaries and I had orientation. We learned about the culture and appropriate etiquette in the Mexican culture. We learned how to take the metro and the micro; the public transportation in la Ciudad de Mexico. I am so thankful that I have traveled to places in the states where public transit was my main source of transportation. The metro here isn’t that different from the MUNI in SF or the Metro in LA. However, the micro, the busses on the local streets, are a little bit trickier. I’m slowly… Read more >>

One Way Ticket to Mexico City

By on Track: Teaching Region: Latin America

At 25 years of age, I never imagined that I would pick up and leave to a different country, especially a foreign place. I will be going to Mexico City today because I simply said yes to God a few months ago.  December 26, 2015. At 5:30am, I was dropped off at LAX to catch the 7:35am flight to St. Louis, Missouri. I was headed to Urbana, a Christian conference - or so I thought it was.  I was at my lowest of lows. Lost. Sad. Lonely. Miserable. Anxious. Alone. Depressed. Those are adjectives I would have never used to describe myself, but those were strikingly accurate. My friends and… Read more >>

“Don’t Ride The Beetle Taxi”

By on Track: Teaching Region: Latin America

November 29, 2016  “Don’t ride the taxis that are beetles. Muggings happen in the beetles.” That is one of the many advices that Victoria shared with me over an almost two hour Skype call.  Victoria is one of the recent high school graduates from IME. She has been a missionary kid all eighteen years of her life and has grown up to be a city girl. She is trilingual! She knows Spanish, English, and Korean! This coming January, she will be leaving the place she calls home, Mexico City, and she will be starting her first semester of college in the quiet suburbs of Illinois! … Read more >>

Unexpected Encounter

By on Track: Teaching Region: Latin America

October 17, 2016 Before heading over to my next meeting, I texted my GoCorps coach, Mike. I had just experienced a God moment with my friend, Elaine, and I just had to share this unexpected encounter with someone! He lives in the Midwest, meaning, he’s two hours ahead of me. I asked him if we could set up a 6am PST Skype meeting so that I could tell him about what had just happened. He quickly agreed. HOWEVER, because of my eagerness and impatience, I asked him if I could just call him right then and there. Mind you, it was about 9:30pm his time. Over the phone, this unexpected encounter is… Read more >>

Us, We, Together!

Unity and Diversity in the Body 1 Corinthians 12: 12-31NIV 12 Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For we were all baptized by[c] one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 14 Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many. 15 Now if the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. 16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not… Read more >>
