My Letter to Future Goers

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Latin America

Where do I begin? The past two years have flown by, and it feels like just yesterday that I was sitting down and meeting with potential supporters, inviting them to join me on this journey. This season has held so many unexpected trials and blessings, namely getting evacuated from my original country of service (Nicaragua), getting married, and starting all over in Honduras as I continue working with my sending org, One Collective.   Thinking back on the past 734 days of life(!), here are my thoughts for you, future goer!   1. Allow yourself to be lead by the Holy Spirit. You’ll… Read more >>

All is Yours | Todo es Tuyo

God is teaching me every single day here in Nicaragua, it seems. Last week, one of our teammates got really sick and was in the hospital for a few days. I got the opportunity to watch her sweet little girls overnight the first night she was away, and I was excited for the chance to love on her little angels and practice my future momma skills. Now, you may know that I love doing things on my own (...I write as I sit in a coffee shop relishing alone time). The past three months, I have been shadowing a local English teacher here in our community, learning from and working alongside of her. Though my role at the school is in the process of changing, this past week I was fortunate enough to be included in the celebration for Día del Maestro, or Teacher’s Day. As the day approached, I have to say that I was a little less than thrilled… Living in a different culture, there are some things I struggle to understand. For one, why was a school in the country with the lowest-rated education system in Central America going to take an entire school day… Read more >>

Tonight, I heard from someone I hadn’t heard from in quite some time. God. This evening, my teammate and I accompanied her host family into the city of Granada. Amanda’s host parents spent the evening preparing for an all-day Saturday church event, while Amanda and I watched after her younger host sister. Not having been in Granada before, we unintentionally found ourselves in the not-so-great part of town (in terms of environment, not safety) as we searched for dinner. In our hunger and my post-car-sickness, we finally landed on a bar-and-grill type restaurant, and then quickly made our way… Read more >>

Most Precious Resource, Most Precious Gift

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Latin America

Today is March 13th, which means I've been living in Nicaragua for ten days now. The last few days Í've really been wanting to write, but have been wrestling back and forth with what to write about! I finally landed on a title/theme God put on my heart a couple days ago and taught me a lot about back when I was support raising. A few nights ago as I finished eating dinner, I asked Abuela Adília, the main woman hosting me right now, if she would like to see some pictures of my family and friends. She said yes, so I ran and grabbed my two Walgreens packs of pictures from my room… Read more >>
