My Letter to Future Goers

By on Track: Teaching Region: Europe

You're probably wondering if this organization or this ministry opportunity is worth all the stress of support-raising/having to ask others for money, acclimation into a new culture, being stressed out more than once about crazy life changes...  It is.  Every single one of those people and potential relationships you could make during your 2 years is more than worth it all. I have now spent 2 years working in a teaching job that I had no experience in, in a country I had never been to before, in a language I had never even heard of, and in a city without anyone else on my ministry… Read more >>

Finally Found My Niche!

By on Track: Teaching Region: Europe

Don't you love that moment when you have gone through all the trials of learning and assimilating and you finally feel like you fit in? It is not only that you can do what you need to do, but that you can finally do it WELL?  Whether it be for a job or a sport or a change of home address, it is the best feeling to know that you have learned and mastered something that you set out to do and, praise God, I have finally had that moment! I found my niche! Not only with teaching, but also with assimilating into this culture. In fact, during the month of December, I was blessed to be able to… Read more >>

Step Back

By on Track: Teaching Region: Europe

There are two meanings to the title of this blog.  First of all, because I have been a bit MIA the past few months, I'm going to rewind a bit and fill y'all in on all the crazy things I've been up to these past few months. And, secondly, this last November was a month of stepping back from the chaos of my life and reflecting/thanking God for all the different ways (both big and small) that he has been there for me. One thing I was so thankful for during the month of November, when culture shock was starting to hit me hard, was the great amount of quality time I was able to spend with… Read more >>

Over The River And Through The Woods...

By on Track: Teaching Region: Europe

It's crazy how quickly this month came and went! Time flies when you're having fun, or at least when you're constantly busy! As you can see from the slightly blurry picture, there have been a lot of fun bike rides through forests to different parts of the city. In this picture, all of the English teachers and I were taking a day trip to one of the lakes 60 km away. Of course, I was trying not to fall off my bike while taking this picture so it is not the best quality, but I chose it because it accurately expresses the joy I have had spending time with everyone here. I was even able to attend… Read more >>

Immersion

By on Track: Teaching Region: Europe

Despite the many opportunities to do mission trips around the world that God has blessed me with, I don't think I have ever truly understood the word immersion until now.  I have had many cross-cultural friends not only at college but just in general, because California is such a diverse place.  And, I always thought I had a pretty good understanding of and appreciation for how hard they must work to do their studies in a foreign language.  It was not until last week that I fully comprehended what it must have felt like for some of them who weren't as fluent in English to… Read more >>
