Robert - Middle East Updates

Class of 2015
Refugee Ministry and Care in Middle East
Track: Compassion - Justice track
Region: Middle East
As a recent graduate of the Pennsylvania State University Schreyer Honors College, I have been praying about one main thing. In Phillipians Pauls states, "If I am to go on living then this will mean fruitful labor for me." My prayer has been, what does faithfully laboring for this fruit tangibly look like in this next season of my life? God calls all of us to share the Gospel the question is where. I am young and have no mortgage or binding responsibilities stateside, I feel that God has laid it on my heart to go to the least reached. Honestly, I am terrified about going but I trust that God will bear fruit through this season.

I love meeting new people, building relationship, and going deep with people. My sense of adventure, willingness to step out of my comfort zone, and burning passion to effectively communicate the Gospel will be critical to this season.

Salvation is received, not achieved. However, communicating that to someone takes relationship, time, and living life together. I cannot wait!

About Me

I grew up in West Chester Pennsylvania as the oldest of 6 children. As an avid white water kayaker, outdoor enthusiast, squash, and ultimate frisbee player, I love the Philly suburbs. I also enjoy, card games like spades, Settlers of Catan, and having deep meaningful conversations with people.

At PSU I studied Industrial Psychology and Business. During my time in State College I was an RA (Resident Assistants) and majorly involved in CRU (Formerly known as Campus Crusade For Christ).

The Spirit At Work

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Middle East

One and a half months before the field! Praise God for all that he has been teaching me and for the “work” that he has placed in front of me right now. I believe that the most effectual prayers are for today. Tonight God has opened the opportunity for dinner and time with a young adult who is seeking the Lord. To quote him, “I would be interested in studying scripture if we could walk through it together.” Praise God. Over the past month God has been teaching me deeper and deeper truths about The Holy Spirit, his Power from on high, and his new nature that indwells us as genuine believers.… Read more >>

The Leading Cause of Death For Christians Who Are Not Yet Buried

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Middle East

At the day of your funeral, what are the top three things you want people to remember? Do you wish that they would discuss the sports car you drove, the fancy chandelier in your family room, the status of your 401K, or how high you rose in the employment ladder at work? All of these are important things but will they last? Personally, I want people to remember me for how I touched the lives of others, a life of purpose and love.  We cannot give what we do not have and we cannot love without first being loved (1 John 2:10). The love within me is not infinite, nor can I generate it easily… Read more >>

When Faith Ceases to Pray, It Ceases to Live

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Middle East

"The faith which creates powerful praying is the faith which centers itself on a powerful person," E.M. Bounds on Prayer "Prayer projects faith on God, and God on the world. Only God can move mountains, but faith and prayer move God" Faith is a spotlight, it always highlights the object of its gaze, faith IN ..., it projects. Faith IN a powerful person begets powerful prayer.  Put most simply faith is a belief and a trust. We never need more faith; we only need to act on the faith given us by Christ in this moment. Even the demons believe. What separates our faith from theirs is trust,… Read more >>

Wow, Every Follower Of Christ Is A Missionary!

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Middle East

I am not going into missions work; I am simply transitioning mission fields. Formerly, I was a missionary at Penn State University, then at Outback Steak House, now through support raising, and soon to be through discipling refugee church leaders. Jesus states this truth in his commissioning to his Disciples. Moments before departing to sit at the right hand of the throne of God Jesus spoke his famous departing words, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and… Read more >>

Syria’s Leading Export: Humans Desperate For Refuge

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Middle East

Analysts say it was inevitable it would come to this, that Syrians would eventually tire of waiting for a war of such exceptional brutality to end. At least 250,000 have been killed in four ferocious years of fighting, by chemical weapons, ballistic missiles and the barrel bombings by government warplanes that are the biggest single killer of civilians, according to human rights groups. Men on both sides die in the endless battles between the government and rebels for towns, villages and military bases that produce no clear victory. The Islamic State kills people in the areas it controls with… Read more >>
