One and a half months before the field! Praise God for all that he has been teaching me and for the “work” that he has placed in front of me right now. I believe that the most effectual prayers are for today. Tonight God has opened the opportunity for dinner and time with a young adult who is seeking the Lord. To quote him, “I would be interested in studying scripture if we could walk through it together.” Praise God.
Over the past month God has been teaching me deeper and deeper truths about The Holy Spirit, his Power from on high, and his new nature that indwells us as genuine believers. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called (Eph 4:4). In the same way that one physical man and one physical woman somehow become one flesh, united in spirit, Christ talks about himself and the Church. By no means is God’s connection towards us sexual; rather it is a deeply profound mystery of compound oneness.
It’s not the theology that has floored me but the application that Christ has revealed. I was at a prayer meeting several weeks ago and one individual, we will call Tim, was sharing a particular struggle. Listening to his story, I turned to a passage in 1 Corinthians, which I “felt” God put on my heart. The woman sitting to my right, we will call Megan, was the initiator of this prayer get-together. She spoke next and quoted the exact section in 1 Corinthians that I was reading to myself, but she didn’t know the reference. Taken aback, I said, I know the reference it’s right here on this page that I was reading.
Tim resumed sharing as I listened intently and turned to a passage in Matthew. Several others shared thoughts but little scripture. In turn, Megan spoke and quoted the exact section in Matthew that the Spirit impressed upon me to share. “Weird,” I thought. She was sitting far enough away that there was no way she could read from my Bible. Must be a coincidence.
Tim continued, the conversation was getting deep. I turned to Zachariah, again because I felt prompted. Megan then quotes that passage is Zachariah! WHAT?!?!?!?!?! I stopped her dead in her tracks and explained what just happened.
The same Spirit that was calling to my remembrance the sacred word of the Lord (John 14:26) was placing the same words on her heart! The same spirit was prompting both of us and confirming our walking in the spirit via the other member of the same body. Real time, real prompting, by the Spirit to manifest his word in power.
For the Kingdom of God is not just a lot of talk; it is living by God's power (1 Cor 4:20).
Praise God for his active work amongst his people.
