Giving Strength

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Europe

One of my favorite organizations is Sevenly, a for profit business that partners with non-profits to bring about social change. Several years ago, Sevenly partnered with an organization fighting trafficking as well as another for profit business, The Giving Keys. The Giving Keys works towards social change while also empowering people. People buy keys that have words stamped into them, a word that the person feels like they need in their life. Once that person feels like they have that attribute in their life they are supposed to pass the key on to someone else who needs that attribute more.… Read more >>

Because You're Special

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Europe

The women who come to café/drop in center live a hard life. Many of them don’t eat well and sometimes don’t even have a place to sleep. They’re always being required to provide services for others but rarely have anything nice done for them (and if they do, it normally has strings attached). Therefore, we hosted a wellness day for the women! We invited a handful of women to come and be pampered for the afternoon. We did their nails, gave them facials and neck massages, and washed their feet. We had fruit and chocolate for the women to eat and spent time just being with each other, it was… Read more >>

God's Reaffirming Call

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Europe

The other weekend I was privileged to travel to Bucharest for conference regarding Anti-Trafficking. First, let me state how happy I am that my organization and team value continued education. Second, God used this conference to reignite my passion for this issue. It was great being in a room with other people working in this area of justice and to hear their stories. It was also great to have them reaffirm me and my calling after I shared my story. We spent the day talking about issues regarding trafficking and how we can be most effective. As we talked I was reminded about how much I do… Read more >>

The Power of Prayer

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Europe

Because I spend so much time on the U-bahn (subway), I’ve started reading books to pass the time. The most recent book I completed was Mark Batterson’s, The Circle Maker. This book really challenged the way I pray and the way I talk to God. There are many things in my life now that I daily circle in prayer. One of those things is the issue of prostitution here in Germany, and more specifically the women who are prostitutes that I have the privilege of building relationships with. One woman in particular, Julia*, God has really lain on my heart. I have been praying for her for a while and one… Read more >>

Trying to Worship

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Europe

Music is one way that I feel like I really connect with God. The lyrics in worship songs really speak to me and many times I feel like God has certain lines stand out because they are a message for me. Songs are one way God talks to me, and that’s something I’ve been missing while I’ve been in Germany. In church the songs are normally ones I’ve never heard of and they are auf Deutsch. Occasionally though there is a song I know but the lyrics are in German, this is great except I’m typically so focused on correct pronunciation that I can’t focus on getting my heart into a place of worship. A… Read more >>
