"The Bubble"

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Asia - South East

I remember back in high school hearing my home town being described as the “Kingwood Bubble.” I’ll admit that I too referred to it as such not only because in someways it was the thing preventing us from the real world but that everything seemed to be perfect. I can’t think of a time I felt unsafe during my years that I lived in Kingwood. It was like this image that as soon as you saw the giant wooden sign signifying that you had arrived into Kingwood that you felt safe. All you saw was suburb after suburb that contained homes with yards, joyful kids playing in the streets, community members… Read more >>

As I am preparing for a devotional that I’ll be giving to the other interns tomorrow, I thought that it would be helpful to blog out my thoughts and that perhaps you could benefit from my preparations. (If you’re an intern and are reading this, then I apologize for the sneak peak) I left the office the other night not having a clue on what I could do for a devotional. I just began praying as I walked to the bus stop that the Lord would just place something on my heart. I want to share something that is applicable to all of interns here; you know something that I felt like all of us could… Read more >>

Proven Faithfulness

Almost three weeks ago, my roommate and I had about an hour of extra time before we had to leave for house church, so we decided that we would spend our morning at the community center. We left our home with no intentions or preconceived plans, we were simply just going to sit and most likely study our Thai. And although we left with the simple expectation to just become more of a known presence in our community, we were about to catch a glimpse of our Father’s faithfulness to his people. So when we got to the community center, there was a woman there whom we came to learn was named P’Lamyai… Read more >>

Today's Form of Simplicity

I feel like there is this preconceived notion that a blog post has to have meaning. Like, if I’m going to post this for the “world” to see I want to make sure that I’m writing something that is thought provoking, challenging, humorous, and most importantly something that I feel will be worth your time. You may disagree with me, but I personally feel this way. I want my words to matter. And yes, that is an important thing to care about. But as I sit here and contemplate on what I could possibly say in this blog post, all I can come up with is…nothing. Yet in my blank mind, I am reminded that… Read more >>

Changing Lenses

If I’m being completely honest with you, prior to my first month in Thailand I never really thought much about the poor. In fact, I could almost say that I made efforts to stay away from “them”. Typically I would make up some excuse to justify my lack of care towards the poor, “I can’t relate to them, I’ve never been poor” or “They’re going to judge me for the wealth that I do have.” These were serious thoughts that I remember intentionally having. This wasn’t always the case though. There were the times that I experienced poverty first hand, like on my trips to El Salvador and Haiti. I… Read more >>
