Breaking Bread

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Asia - South East

Two of Jesus’ disciples, presumably lesser known being that they weren’t one of the twelve, were walking to Emmaus discussing the recent events of Jesus’ death and the resurrection they were speculating was even true. Disguised as a stranger and hidden from their eyes, Jesus approached them on the road and asked them what they were talking about. They shared in detail about what had just happened to Jesus, who they called a prophet of great deed and in word. What they also shared was a hope, or perhaps an expectation, that Jesus was supposed to be Israel’s redeemer. Jesus seemed to cut them… Read more >>

Standing Out

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Asia - South East

I get stared at daily. Stares that I feel most often communicate, “What are you doing here?”I’m a foreigner, so I get it. The stares make sense. The reality is that it’s likely because I’m white. However, I like to think I stand out because I’m a foot taller than most people and I’m quite hairy. I’m well aware I’m hairy, but this is frequently made aware to me when the kids pet me like an animal. Literally, like a dog. It’s hilarious, but that’s beside the point. What is the point is that it’s quite obvious that I stand out. Standing out isn’t always necessarily a bad thing, but in the… Read more >>

Let Christmas Bring Change

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Asia - South East

Christmas in Bangkok seemingly isn’t much different than back in the States. Here it is all about the decorations and jolly music, sadly what this monumental celebration has become for most people. However, amidst all the material surroundings that Christmas brings, I am even more so reminded of the true reason we celebrate. Living in a place where “Jesus is not the reason for the season” seems to highlight even more so that He is in fact the reason that we do. Here I am not distracted by buying gifts or scheduling which parties to attend and the lack of a spiritual emphasis on this season… Read more >>

A Season of Change

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Asia - South East

It seems appropriate that with the change of seasons here in Thailand, that a season of change would happen in my life. I write this update to y’all with news of a really big change here in Thailand. My past updates that I have sent out were filled with prayer requests for discernment of how to use my second year in Thailand. I came back from my trip home this summer into a season of discernment to figure things out and quite honestly never really felt like I got many answers. I remained at peace that the Lord had called me here for a two-year commitment and simply trusted that the Lord would… Read more >>

I AM STILL LOST

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Asia - South East

I never thought that t-shirts would provide such comedic relief in my life. There exists some “cruel” people in this world that have created hilariously and wildly offensive graphic tee’s, and unfortunately Thai people love to wear them, but I’m guessing they have no idea what they actually say. For example, while riding a bus one day a man walked on wearing a shirt that read, “Got Hemorrhoids?” I’m thinking he chose this shirt for the look of it, not because he genuinely wanted me or those around him to answer that question his shirt broadcasted. So you see what I mean by “cruel” people,… Read more >>
