Delivery!

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Europe

What a special delivery it was that came on September 23rd, 2014!  "D", a Bulgarian woman who has been working on the streets in Berlin the last 6 or 7 months, gave birth to a baby boy on this fall Tuesday evening.  This is the story of how God walked with her from labor pains to the delivery, and what He is doing in her life now. Surprise! Monday,  September 22 after my language class I boarded the U-bahn (Berlin's "metro") and traveled to Neustart Cafe.  I am the "Einkaufsperson" ("shopping person") for the Cafe, and was going there this Monday to buy some groceries for… Read more >>

Fruitfulness Over Productivity

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Europe

In the daily choice to either pursue intimacy with Christ or to be productive in accomplishing and handling everyday-life matters,  I often choose the latter.  My productivity is something I can control—how much of my “To-Do List” for the day I can complete—and in ministry, where my success cannot be measured by what grade I get, how many hours I worked, or how much money I earned, my task-oriented mentality feeds off control and pursuit of a sense of productivity. I do not know Christ in an intimate way.  God showed me at the end of May that in my relationship with Him, I had… Read more >>

The Shepherd Bringing Back the Lost Lamb

Neustart, my ministry assignment here in Berlin, is now opening regularly on Friday nights!  Before, we were open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons and Monday nights.  Alabaster Jar, another prostitution ministry with a similar outreach, rents the same Cafe space and opens on Wednesday nights and Thursday afternoons.  This is a story from a couple Friday nights ago, where God did something incredible. Friday, May 30th We had two new volunteers working in the Cafe that night, along with Prisca, the Cafe leader, Gerhard, one of the founders of Neustart, and… Read more >>

God of Wonders

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Europe

God heals people and continues to do miracles as He did in the Bible.  I believe God still raises the dead, heals the blind, and feeds the multitude.  Jesus promises in John 14:12, “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.”   God is leading me into this promise, among others, and showing me more of what “greater things” means in a life lived out for the Kingdom of God. Jesus did not construct big gatherings and plan outreach events.  Jesus was God… Read more >>

Feeling the Weight

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Europe

Rest for Our Souls In Matthew 11, Jesus is speaking to a crowd of people (vs. 6).  In his preaching, he begins to denounce specific cites—Chorazin, Bethsaida, and Capernaum—because of their lack of repentance.  Jesus performed many miracles in these towns, and yet their hearts remained hardened to the kingdom of God, with Christ as King.  Jesus prophesies of the judgment these towns will receive—Capernaum receiving judgment worse than that of Sodom (vs. 24).  Then, Jesus prays aloud to God, “‘I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these… Read more >>
