“Sooo what’s next for you after college?” These were the dreaded words I would hear roughly twenty times a week throughout my senior year of college. I never knew how to answer these questions because I truly did not know what I would be stepping into post-grad, I felt like I was never going to get a clear answer from God about where he was leading me after college. Looking back on my years at Colorado Christian University it’s so clear seeing how God was planting seeds in my life, through my classes, church sermons, long-lasting friendships, and my own wrestling with God to lead me perfectly into this moment, saying yes to Jesus’ call and moving to Bulgaria for mission work.
So here’s how the story unfolded; how I went from an unsure college senior to discovering Gocorps and eventually saying yes to mission work in Europe. Every summer throughout High School I spent two weeks of my summer with my student ministry learning how to share the gospel to youth in east Austin. Spending my summers learning what evangelism looks like really grew my heart to feel burdened for the people who don’t know Christ, to hear the gospel. This heart for people to know Christ really grew into a passion for the Nations during my time at Colorado Christian University. I studied Communication and minored in Global Studies with an emphasis in Biblical Studies at CCU. The classes I took while at CCU continued to reaffirm my passion for the nations. My professors really helped me to understand what a career and life in missions could look like abroad. I definitely understood during my time at CCU my post-grad years would be spent abroad in some capacity. I just didn’t know what that truly meant quite yet.
In March of my senior year I went to church and my pastor shared a dream that an older lady in our church had. Her dream was that The Heights Denver (my church) was a school for missionaries. People throughout the church were being equipped by the Lord to go out and share the good news. This dream really struck me, and so I went and asked for prayer by a member of the prayer team. Her prayer was that the Lord would make it so blatantly obvious that mission work was what I should be stepping into, or that he would shut the door so quickly if it wasn’t time yet. The very next day one of my best friends Sophie sent me the application to Gocorps and told me I should apply. This amazing act of the Lord answering that prayer so quickly was such a display of kindness, and he has continued to reveal to me so much confirmation in this next season. Especially in how He is leading me to Bulgaria, through the team, the work they do that exactly aligns with my passions, and all the ways he continues to excite me about the culture of Sofia, Bulgaria. All of this has been God’s way of preparing me for the season ahead, and I’m stepping into it with both excitement and dependence on Him.
Overall, this blog is my space to reflect on the harvest and the work God has graciously invited me into. SO welcome friends! I am excited to share pieces of my life abroad– what God is teaching me, moments of hilarity, the ups and downs of language learning, many prayer requests, moments of seeing the Lord move in Bulgaria, and so much more. I am glad you’re here, sharing pieces of my life with me, even as we are oceans a part.
