It’s hard to believe I’ve been here for a full year! Thinking about this milestone, I put together five questions to help me reflect on the things that really define what the Lord has done and where he is leading me next.
1. How have you changed most between day one and today?
Comparing day one to today, the biggest change is a deeper sense of security in my identity in Christ. The joys and challenges of this year have matured me, shifting my focus from my own capabilities to resting in Him alone. That spiritual maturity has naturally grown my patience and love for the people I serve alongside every day.
2. What was your biggest unexpected challenge this year?
The sheer scale of cultural adaptation was my biggest surprise. I knew things would be different, but I didn't realize how much it would affect every minute of my day—from my schedule to the way I process conversations. Learning to do like scripture says “lay down my life daily” and take up my cross to follow Christ has been a constant, stretching exercise in humility and flexibility.
3. What new doors have opened now that you speak the language?
You know it’s cool to see how the Lord has taken language, which was once a barrier, and turned it into a door. A year ago, I sat in video shoots feeling overwhelmed by the Spanish around me. Now, my teammates are coming to me to lead projects for our Spanish ministry—planning, listening, and editing entirely in the local language. It’s been a gift from the Lord to be able to contribute to the mission in such a direct way.
4. What is one area where you feel the Lord is still refining you?
The Lord is still showing me that growth isn't a one-time event. He consistently places me in situations that require 'fresh' humility and compassion. Even when it feels frustrating in the moment, I can see He is purposefully teaching me to stop relying on my own strength and instead turn to Him for the patience I need.
5. How can we specifically pray for your joy and endurance in year two?
Please pray for a heart that continues to choose love over personal preference. As the 'newness' wears off, pray that I wouldn’t forget why I’m here, but stay focused on loving my teammates well. Most of all, pray for a daily surrender to the Lord that allows His strength to fuel my endurance and joy!
