I was there once too.
I never planned to live or serve overseas, but during my senior year of college, God started to move the pieces into place. Still, I wasn't sure, it certainly wasn't the plan I had in mind. However, I decided to pray a simple prayer: God, not my will but yours; as long as the door stays open, I’ll walk through it. I wasn’t committing to the outcome, just to obedience in the next step.
Those steps moved faster than I expected. Class assignments turned into genuine applications. Applications, into interviews, job offers, and ultimately into goodbyes – all of the sudden, I found myself boarding a plane, leaving behind the life I knew and stepping into a new one.
It wasn't easy, but it was so worth it. Going changed me in ways I never could've expected. Living cross-culturally has stretched my faith and challenged my assumptions; it's helped me grow—personally, spiritually, and professionally. I've grown in humility, resilience, and perseverance. But most importantly, I was obedient. Through practicing obedience, I have learned how to listen to God and trust him beyond my own understanding.
If you’re waiting to feel completely ready, you may be waiting forever. Going isn’t about certainty—it’s about willingness and obedience. If the door is open and your heart is stirring, don’t ignore it. Just take the first step and trust God for the next.
