trusting in the slow work of God

Posted on Wednesday, June 12, 2024

The work of God is slow. It is something I am constantly learning. Despite only being in this new country for a couple months, I feel the temptation to rush and hurry— getting frustrated when language isn't where I want it to be at, at times feeling dissatisfied with my progress in forming relationships with locals, and a constant desire to get things done and check off things on my to-do list. It is in these moments that I am reminded of the verse from Psalm 46. To be still and know that He is God. I am comforted by the fact that God is always at work, and is doing a good work in me. That my work is not dependent on my own abilities and skills, but I am wholly reliant on the grace and mercy of God. It is in the stillness and the silence, where I can draw nearer to him, that I feel my soul is refreshed and my sense of purpose renewed. God is not in a hurry, and his timing is perfect.
