We're Here! 4/11

Posted on Wednesday, June 1, 2022

We wanted to update all of you that Brian and I have arrived safely in Masatepe, Nicaragua five days ago! We had safe travels and have been greeted many times by Nicaraguans saying “estás en casa”, which means “you are home.” The pace of life here is much slower than we are used to. In a good way, Brian and I have both felt like we’ve been here much longer than we actually have.

Our travel plans were a bit last-minute, but we were able to re-work our budget so that we could leave now and finish the remainder of our support raising remotely from Nicaragua. We appreciate your continued prayers for the Lord’s provision in this regard!

We are currently staying in a small bedroom connected to our team’s office space. It has surprised us both that the tiny space has felt perfectly sufficient for us. Even in these few short days we’ve had in Masatepe, we have become aware of the daily things we take for granted and have been forced to reshape the way we think about our “needs” vs. our “wants”. One easy example is running water—we have spent most of the past 4 days without running water, and have almost mastered the art of the water-bottle-shower (where one person acts as a faucet and slowly pours a bottle of water over the head of the showering person). In the coming days, we will begin looking at some houses around the city that we could rent as a more long-term solution.

The past few days have been filled with tours of the city and surrounding areas, as well as many introductions to team members and various people throughout the community. The photo above shows Brian playing soccer with some local guys at a “field” a few blocks from where we are staying. It was a humbling experience, to say the least.

We are so grateful for all the encouraging words and support everyone at home has shown us. Please join us in prayer that the Lord would be opening doors for us to connect with the people here and share the Good News. It’s not easy leaving home, but we feel content and confident that we are where God wants us.

In Christ,

Brian & Dominique
