Hello!
My name is Dominique. My husband Brian and I are in preparation to go overseas, and it has been a joy to be encouraged by family and friends as we meet with them to share about what we feel called to.
I want to share about how we got to this point, but the most important thing to share is our "why". We've both experienced the Lord's invitation to accept his grace and feel called to share that with others. We want to share this good news of salvation with others, and spread the name of Jesus to the lost and oppressed.
Brian and I first began speaking about the potential of living in a different country and doing missions work while we were still dating. Brian had an experience in high school—before he'd say he became a believer—while on a long drive from Iowa to Minnesota where he felt like the Lord first called him to missions. On this drive, he remembers feeling particularly weighed down by stress and uncertainty about life in college and beyond (e.g. what college to attend, what major to choose, whether chosen career path would feel satisfying, etc.). In the midst of this stress, he remembers suddenly being completely sure that he was going to one day be a missionary in Latin America. With this sudden assurance came an overwhelming sense of peace. Missions work wasn't something he had ever considered before, and at the time didn't really know what to think, but felt like the thought had come from someone else—as if it had been placed in his mind by someone else.
When I first heard this story, I thought it was so perfect. First, because I also have a heart to reach those that don't know Jesus. And also—because my family is from Bolivia—I was already fluent in Spanish and definitely had an affinity to Latin American culture. I had the chance to go to Bolivia multiple times and go to the Czech Republic on a few short-term mission’s trips. On one trip to the Czech Republic, I met someone who was against Jesus for the first time, but I also met people that encountered Christ for the first time. I saw the dedication of believers there to share the Gospel with students over and over again for many years.
This is what our aim is while we're in Nicaragua! We want to use the skills that God has given us to serve those we meet in Nicaragua and share Jesus with them. Practically, we will demonstrate God's love by running various small businesses and initiatives to employ and empower the local community. Through this work, we will seek to build relationship to share the Good News of salvation through faith in Christ. Our team vision is to ultimately hand over the businesses and ministry projects to the Nicaraguans.
