A Very Uncomfortable Blessing

Posted on Sunday, March 21, 2021

A Very Uncomfortable Blessing. If I had to describe my departure to the field in four words I think these would be the ones I would pick. Let me layout the timeline of how the day was supposed to go:

11:30am Arrive at my grandparents' house for lunch

12:30pm Say tearful goodbyes and give long tight hugs

1pm Arrive at the airport and get checked in with plenty of time til my flight

1:30pm Say tearful goodbyes and give long tight hugs to my parents and sister

3:40pm Take off!

It was a great plan! And quite different from how the day actually went:

11:30am Arrive at my grandparents' for lunch

11:45pm Discover that my COVID test results have not been posted

11:50pm Contact customer support and am told "Your test is not travel approved" and "Your results will not be honored"

11:55pm Panic.

12:05pm My sister helped me research and find a rapid results test that would be travel approved and have results within 1-2 hrs

12:15pm Give very rushed and stressed hugs and goodbyes

12:25pm Arrive at the wrong testing location

12:35pm Arrive at the correct testing location and get tested

1pm Arrive at the airport and get my bags checked

1:05pm Find out I can't check my bags until I have my COVID test results

1:45pm Get negative test results and check bags

1:46pm Find out I can't get a boarding pass without a printed copy of test resutls

1:55pm My mom and sister run through the airport to print my test and bring it back

2:05pm Say quick and tearful goodbyes to my parents and sister, give tight hugs, and head to security

2:25pm Get through security and wait at gate

2:40pm Board plane

3:40pm Take off!

Just to clarify, that was the very uncomfortable part...

My flight went great, I arrived in country with no other issues, and life went on. But I was still frustrated at everything that had happened so I reached back out to customer support to figure out what the issue was with my test and why it wouldn't have been travel approved. (The test I ordered from the provider was the type I was required to take (PCR) and was the same as the rapid test that actually gave me the results, so I was quite confused.) So I explain the whole ordeal to the customer service representative and she says that the previous representative made an error, and my test was travel approved and the results would be honored! Cue my frustration increasing. I went through all that chaos and rushed goodbyes for nothing...

But as I looked more closely, I was hit with the blessing. On my account, it showed the time that my original test had posted my results: 4:45pm Friday. My flight was Thursday. If I hadn't rushed to take a new test, I would have been waiting at the airport for test results that wouldn't have come until far too late. I would have missed my flight.

So for all the frustration and panic that made my departure hectic, the Lord's hand was at work through a customer service representative so that I could indeed make my flight and arrive as planned. I am so thankful for the Lord's provision even when it comes in the form of very uncomfortable blessings. And thank you to those of you who were praying over my departure!
