James 1:12 – “Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.”
Lately I have been meditating on the posture of prayer. This past week I received news that my cousin had passed away unexpectedly. I couldn’t believe it. I felt so separated from family, friends, and familiarity and had no idea what it meant to process this news. When difficult things come I tend to grasp onto the people around me, hoping they can numb my pain through soothing words and kind actions. Here, in a new country and new people I truly needed Jesus more than anything. What does it mean to be faithful and pray earnestly when I’m in pain and uncomfortable?
I started going to a class offered by my team that challenged my prayer life. The reality is, life is hard and trials will come; we are promised that. True wisdom and maturity comes from knowing how to have perspective and a willing heart to accept what we are going through. We must cling to the hope and truth that is in Jesus Christ. This means praying in faith that He is our living hope and our eternal glory. There is nothing that the world can take away from us! As I thought about these things I have felt God stirring in my heart for the people around me. The new local friends I have made do not have the living hope and eternal assurance. Although it is okay to feel pain and normal to have hard times, we must not remain stuck in them for this life is temporary. In this season of grieving and adjusting I will cling to the love and grace of Jesus and pray for the people around me. My desire is for them to also have eternal hope.
I have a new friend Blair (name changed for security purposes) that I am excited to get to know more. I would love to become close friends with her and even share with her the everlasting love I have, because He is worthy of everything, even in pain and suffering! We have been given a charge and must remain faithful till the end.
