Identity

By on Track: Ministry Region: Europe

Have you ever been in a situation that led you to ask yourself, “How did I get here?” I have. I asked myself that very question as I sat sobbing on the side of a mountain in Spain while walking along the French Route of El Camino de Santiago. I wasn’t physically hurt or injured. I wasn’t even in danger. I was just overcome with emotion as I lay my heart bare before the Lord and finally confronted what I had tried so hard to avoid. Too ashamed to say these words out loud, I wrote them in my journal instead: June 3, 2017 Today’s day of silence was good but hard because I had to reflect on… Read more >>

The Art of Waiting

By on Track: Ministry Region: Europe

Waiting is hard - especially in a world in which instant-gratification is normalized and even expected. I've been conditioned to satisfy my cravings immediately. Feeling hungry? Make something to eat. Too lazy to make something? Order take-out. When I sit to think about it, I realize that I've never really had to wait for anything before - not even at Disneyland! I mean, that's what those coveted fast-passes are all about, right? Skip the line and the wait! An Open Letter To My High School Self

By on Track: Ministry Region: Europe

Dear Falecia, I know that the last few years haven’t been easy. You’ve been hurt by those closest to you, and the places you once considered to be safe are no longer a sanctuary. You’ve been struggling with depression for quite some time now, and the habitual suffering in your life has jaded you. Although you tell yourself that God is good, that there’s a purpose for it all and that you’ll eventually understand it when you get to heaven, you’re actually living tragically in the infinite resignation stage. Not to fear, my dear. Once you acknowledge your losses and truly let them go, you’ll… Read more >>

Sufficiently Insufficient

By on Track: Ministry Region: Europe

Weakness. Oh, how Pride hates him. Perfect, on the other hand, is Pride’s best friend. The thing about Perfect is that she doesn’t settle for anything less than the best, which is one of the attributes that Pride admires so much about her. She’s a hard-worker, and she’s good at what she does. She’s well-respected and recognized for her accomplishments. Weakness also admires Perfect’s hard work and dedication, but, unlike Pride, Weakness sees beneath Perfect’s confident exterior which boasts in strength, self-sufficiency, and security. Weakness knows Perfect’s dirty little secret: that she’s… Read more >>

Going to Granada

By on Track: Ministry Region: Europe

"It’s dinner time!" Alas. My grumbling stomach had waited hours to hear those words. After playing a name game with the sixteen other members of my cohort, we began to make our way over to the picnic table where the fragrence of grilled burgers reminded us of how hungry we were after hours of travel from across the U.S. to this beautiful camp site in Minnesota where we would spend the week learning more about GoCorps, our sending organizations, our roles on our specific teams, and how to share our ministry vision and needs with others. "But there's a catch." We paused, confused as to what… Read more >>
