Recently I have taken on the mantle of co-coordinator for our clothing closet - Kids Korner - that provides clothes and winter jackets to refugee families we serve. It’s been a learning curve for sure with highs and lows as with everything in life. But it is a joy to meet such real tangible needs in the communities we work in. I love seeing the clothes we gave away on the kids running around at programs and getting to see kids playing in the pants I picked out when I go on a home visit. I even have become “the jacket lady” to some families, which is better than other monikers I suppose!
One particular little girl left an impression I will always treasure. When we brought out a new pink coat for her to try on she burst out in excitement and couldn’t try it on quick enough. I love being able to so beautifully bless families in this way!
Soon after I started at Kids Korner, I got to give away an ergonomic baby carrier to a new mom from our moms program for African migrants. She was genuinely so excited about it! Once we got her fitted with it and her little one-month old all settled in, she broke out in a huge smile exclaiming, “I feel so free! I can do anything!” After carrying her baby all-across the city in her arms, a baby carrier is an enormous blessing. It was so fun to provide that for her and similar things for the other women and kids who come to us each week.
