I am so excited to be going overseas after my graduation from college. To say it has been a long time coming feels like an understatement. I have been feeling this call for many years now and I am PUMPED to be in a position to be taking action on my calling after so many closed doors.
I felt pushed over the edge into working overseas while on a mission trip with YWAM one summer. I was working in a totally impoverished part of the world that many of my friends and family could not even point to on a map, with people no one at home knew about, much less knew how much they were hurting with no hope. After living there I was convicted and convinced I would be coming back to missions, there was no doubt. I had thought about it before but now I was sure.
Coming home I felt God’s pull to finish my Associates degree before going overseas. I only had a semester left so I said ok. I guess I can put off this calling until you give me confirmation. Then again the organization I wanted to join fell through and I was not able to go that winter. Desperate to be doing what I felt called to I joined YWAM again for a couple of months with their dance company. At this point my plan was to go from there into a full time team or organization overseas.
But again that was not God’s plan. He called me to put of my dream of serving overseas to go back to school to finish my full Bachelors degree. A whole two years of putting off what I so wanted to be doing. No lie, God and I fought about it a bit before I realized again that was pointless and hurtful to be pursuing something outside of God’s best plan for my life. Going into that first semester seemed like it would last forever. However, looking back it has flown by faster than I thought possible!
I have now just finished my Bachelor’s degree and that is surreal to say the least! As I was applying through GoCorps this past semester I felt that final peace about going overseas and serving in this way. Now I am at GoWeek in Minneapolis preparing to go overseas for two years. God has open doors I thought closed forever in ways I had forgotten were possible. I am so excited now to go, loving and living with forgotten people who do not have access to the beautiful hope of Christ.
