Beauty & Joy In The Wait

Posted on Saturday, March 31, 2018

I was so eager to leave on my first departure date, but when I missed that I wanted so badly to leave on the second. Then, when I missed the second departure date as well I began to worry about my missionary journey and dreaded being back in my hometown (Stockton, CA) because it made me feel stuck and defeated. I had many questions: will I raise any support here in my hometown? How long will I be here? Should I get a job? Amidst all my questions, I learned quick that everything changes when I ask the right questions: Lord, what do you have to teach me here? What will you have me do here? How can I honor and glorify you here? I didn’t hear the Lord’s answers audibly, but I knew He was reminding me to be present where I am and embrace the journey. I’ve received many encouragements from Christian friends that it’s all in God’s timing and I need to be patient. I believe that, I truly do, and I also believe that their encouragements have good intentions. However, I’ve always felt something much deeper beyond the patience. I wanted a kind of patience that embraces and not grumbles about the wait; something that only the Spirit can give. I realized that I needed to be actively present. Since then, the Lord began to put His peace in my heart about being home with family and friends as I work on raising the rest of my support. My life isn’t just about raising support but also loving and being with the people that are currently in my life; there's so much beauty and joy in that. Although I still long for the day when I reach full support to start my assignment in Bangkok, Thailand, I know that my deepest longing is to honor and glorify God forever wherever I am; and I choose to live that out today. All honor and glory to God.
