As the holiday season comes to an end and a new year is upon us, I have noticed everyone starting to make their New Year’s resolutions. I decide that since I was moving shortly after the new year, it would not be a good idea to make my own personal resolutions. But to be honest, that was just an excuse to continue not making resolutions because I haven’t made any for the past 5 years. I stopped making them because I was never able to follow through. I know I am not the only one with this problem because I did a quick google search on how to keep New Year’s resolutions and I got more than 10 million results. Further proof was the many apps that have been created to help people try to keep their resolutions.
After so many failed attempts and like so many others, I realized that it is hard to change old habits. I have also realized there is nothing wrong with making resolutions - improving is always a good thing. However, in the Bible, in 2 Corinthians, it tells us that when we enter in to a relationship with Christ we are made new. To me, that is better than trying to stick to any New Year’s resolution on my own. This scripture says I am already given a fresh start. Jesus doesn’t hold any of my old mistakes against me. Instead, He teaches me to be a better person through His strength.
This is probably the last blog I will write while living in America – at least for the next two years. I know in less than three short weeks almost every part of my life will be changing. The one thing that will not change is my faith in Jesus and His love for me. That is such a reassurance that no matter what life throws at me, I will always have His steadfast love. I am excited to let God use me during 2018 to show His love to the people in Stellenbosch, South Africa.
