When I first contacted Go Corps, I knew that if I was accepted fundraising would be part of the process. I never felt like I had the best communication skills growing up, so I figured this would be a challenge for me. During the application process, I just chose to give this real concern to God, so I would not focus and worry about the fundraising. I knew if God wanted me to be part this mission, he would help me when the time came.
I am now a fourth of my way through my fundraising period and I am so glad God fulfilled his promise to support me during this time. Of course, this didn’t happen without me learning a few lessons in the process. The first thing I had to learn to do is to surrender. I learned quickly that the idea in my head of how this would work was not the same as God’s idea. I have learned to not let this frustrate me, but to be amazed each time God surprises me in how he will find people to support my ministry. I have learned God’s way is always going to be better than my way.
During this part of my mission experience, I have found my favorite part of fundraising is being able to share about the East Mountain team I will be working with in South Africa. My second favorite part is being given a reason to connect to friends with whom I have lost contact. I had the blessing of reconnecting with two friends from my undergrad education that are currently serving overseas. They both are serving in their ministry through fundraising. It was such an encouragement to hear their stories and know that I am not alone in this season of my ministry.
Prayer Needs:
-That I reach 50% of my monthly pledges by October 15th.
-That my relationships with my team members in South Africa keep growing.
-That I recognize God’s provision in my life comes from him and allow it to take me deeper in my love for him.
