It is crazy to think that my two year commitment has ended with GoCorps. It has been a couple months since my 2 year commitment has ended but I am still on the field. If someone told me that I would continue time here, I would have been pretty surprised. 2 years seemed like the longest time. It seemed like so much time away from my family & friends. But coming here and seeing the heart that the Lord has for the Middle East has changed my perspective.
These two years have taught me so much. You come in with the idea that you may have some things to give and giftings to share. But no refugee that I have served has cared about my academic accolades or my ministry accomplishments. They just care for some strong tea and a good chat. These two years have been so humbling. As I have shared the Gospel so many times with people, I have relearned it over and over again. I have learned that I am TRULY nothing. I am a sinful and disgusting human being that is wrought with sinful nature. But I have a worthy purpose which is to accept the Lord as my Savior and see Him as my only hope and only future.
When we want to share the Gospel with others and go to another country to do it, I have seen that the Lord meets the goer in so many intense ways to show them the ways they haven't believed the Gospel themselves and breaks down the walls of disbelief. That has been my two years! What an incredible journey it has been. The field has been a place not only to learn about the truth of the people that I serve but also about myself.
This process has been completely transformative for me but it has been difficult! When you leave your comfortable surroundings of your home country and go to a place that is unknown in almost every single way, there are so many things that you can't hide from. But WOW does the Lord comfort and work in that. Although this road has been tough, what an incredible BLESSING it has been for my spirit and for the trajectory of my life. I have learned what I believe in the Gospel, His people, and in the Church. So many of my fundamental beliefs have been rooted and planted in this country through the things I have experienced here.
If you are considering going - know that it is a hard 2 years but the Lord will meet you in such a comforting way!!
