summer

Posted on Thursday, August 2, 2018

hi friends & family

The summer for our team is such a unique time. We are planning for the next year, visiting with many families, sparking unique conversations, and investing in new opportunities that we may not get during the rest of the year! Here are some updates . . .

In between the language studying and the preparations for the new program year, we visit a lot of families. Most of these families come to our programs and we continue to invest in them outside of our program year. Many of the visits consist of catch ups and possibly even sharing a meal. I have been doing some pre- & post-natal visits with the women to be a support for them. There are some moments the Lord has for us that are really sweet. Within the first 10 minutes of being with her, the woman i visited asked us about the Son of God and why we call Him that. We are excited to continue meeting with her to walk her through an Arabic bible study series. We are continuing to pray for moments like this for the families we work with, to spark more conversations about Jesus!

Another fun thing we do over the summer is have monthly picnics for all of the refugees we work with. It is a time for all of us to come together, catch up, and feel safe. There are so many ways to serve these families, and one way that I love to invest in is loving their children. As many of you know, I am so passionate about kids! Racism is prevalent here and sometime the children suffer because of it. Some of them are not treated or given the same opportunities as the  children of this culture. They deserve the love and I know the parents feel loved by this as well!

Lastly, the summer gives us more free time to invest more deeply into the families we walk with. Milly! She is due for her second child at the end of August. I was able to go over to her house last week and help her write a birth plan for her labor. Empowerment is needed for any woman in labor, especially for those who may not be able to have someone by their side during it. I am sure she would appreciate the prayer for the rest of pregnancy and labor!
