”What Does God Think About You?”
I have been asked this question twice in the last week and both times I was stumped for an answer. What does God think about me? In the moment I felt a little weird for not knowing, I mean, this is supposed to be elementary knowledge as a Christian, isn’t it? But I had never really thought to ponder what God thought about me, let alone ask. My pursuit these last few months has been to get to know pieces of God’s character on a deeper level, and I definitely have been. But, now I find myself in a place of wondering where my identity fits into all of that. If God is trustworthy and good, then who am I?
I know what scripture says about us being his children and heirs to his kingdom, but what truths does God want to speak into my specific insecurities that I have a hard time letting go of, or those flaws that I tend to focus on too much, or the feelings of “not being enough”? I wonder if I stop and listen to what he has to say that soon enough the truth would become louder than the lies that I’ve been hoarding for such a long time.
Since this is still a fresh thought, I don’t quite have a satisfactory answer, but I will share a word that has been put on my mind and heart recently. The word is sacred. I came upon it while reading a passage in 1 Corinthians chapter 3 where Paul is talking about how our bodies are God’s temple and therefore sacred. The context of this chapter is speaking into the Corinthian church and the spiritual immaturity and division they were experiencing as a body of believers, but it stuck with me. God thinks that I am sacred and worth pouring his Spirit into (verse 16).
So, to whoever is reading this, if you were asked what God thinks about you, what would be your response? I want to invite anyone who might struggle with their identity in Christ to join me in this dialogue with God and to practice listening. We might be surprised at what he has to say, and even more surprised at how it transforms us as believers.
