I am originally from Haiti, a small country in the Caribbean. I grow up there, went to school and I always thought that I would spend my whole life there. Unfortunately that was not the case. In the beginning of 2010, I had to leave the country because of the massive earthquake. I left my family, my friends and everything that was familiar to me. I move to the United States to continue my education. I never imagined that life will bring me where I am today. I always thought that I would graduate college, find a job and make money. God showed me that my plans for my life were different from His.
For some, the word Mission has always been in their vocabulary. For me it was until I went to college that I became familiar with that word. Since then, I struggled understanding what that word means to me. I could not see myself anywhere in God’s global mission. In December 2015, I went to a mission conference in Saint Louis called Urbana. There God opened my eyes and show me how broken the world is and that there are many that are waiting to learn more about Jesus. After that conference I felt that God was calling me to GO. Because of fear and lack of wisdom, I went for the easy route which is finish college, get a job and make money.
As I was approaching graduation day, I was unable to find a fulltime job unlike most of my fellow classmates. I was worried, really worried!!!! About a week before graduation, I receive another email from GoCorps which is one of the organizations that I met at Urbana. And I remembered what God told me !!! I took a leap of faith and I applied for GoCorps. After about 2 months of praying and fasting, I decided that I would go on mission for two years.
As I am going through support raising, many are asking: “How do I know that God wants me to go? Did He give me a dream or a sign? ” One thing that God has giving me is peace and that is what is important. I believe that God arrange all the circumstances of my life for this. When I think and reflect about everything that happened in my life, I can only be reminded of Joseph. He went from his father’s house, to being a slave at Potiphar’s house, to prison and to being in charge of the whole land in Egypt. God guided Joseph’s path so that he could save his family from the famine and I believe that God is guiding me too. I dont know why He wants me to serve for two years but I will trust and believe in His plans for my life. I can think of no safer place to be than in the center of His will.
