My letter to future Goers

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Africa - North

When I first arrived on the mission field everything was a blur.  Thankfully I had had some training on cross-cultural ministry before leaving the States but once you land on the mission field it goes from understanding how to live cross-culturally, to struggling to actually do it.  Luckily during the first meeting I had with my team my team leader suggested that all the team members shared pieces of advice for me, and the other Goer that came with me.  Some of this advice was incredibly helpful, others good for a laugh, but I was deeply thankful for all the advice I could get… Read more >>

Easter

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Africa - North

Easter has always been one of my favorite times of the year.  As we celebrate each year we remember not just a significant historical date but we remember a new life that has been won for us.                 In the past, I’ve been able to celebrate Easter surrounded by close friends and family and although the same truths remained and have filled this season with joy for me, almost everything else about this Easter season has been different. By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Africa - North

Over the Holiday season I had the chance to take a few days vacation with a some of my team members.  The four of us had the chance to spend one night in the mountains and the next three days camping on a beach.  This country has some beautiful sights to see; high mountain peaks, deep valleys carved by dried up riverbeds, beautiful beaches, and coral reefs teaming with life.  Though trips to see all the beauty that this country has to offer do not come often, it’s nice to be able to take a short trip away from  the cities that we spend the rest of our time working in. The… Read more >>

Don't Forget

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Africa - North

I said bye to a close friend on Friday, as he drove off he said out his car window “Don’t forget you’re American.”  I think what he meant to say, in a roundabout bro way, was that I would be missed.  There may have been a slight fear of how much we would change during this time but I think it was mostly about remembering the people and the places that I now call home and to hurry back.  I waved as I thought about being away for two years and all that would change. This statement got me thinking though… Am I an American first?  Is this where I strive to come home to?… Read more >>

Embarking on this new season

By on Track: Compassion - Justice Region: Africa - North

This blog post is an introduction to my life and the adventures that I will embark on in these next two years.  This first blog post comes on the brink, as I’m about to jump into my time with GoCorps and serving with my sending organization.  Summer is coming with a lot of excitement, as I’ll be hoping to meet with supporters, build connections, and really gain a team that I can share these next two years with.  As GoWeek and my summer campaign training comes to a close I am truly excited for this next season of life, and my adventures in East Africa. … Read more >>
