In this world of right here, right now, God’s timing is a breath of fresh air. We’ve grown up in an era where waiting is considered lazy, and where time is money. We get anxious when things aren’t happening right away. When we’re texting someone and they don’t write back or when we try out for a team or apply for a job and don’t hear back we become anxious, worried and nothing will pacify our nerves. God does not work in human time or in the human way.
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways, and my thoughts are higher than your thoughts.” - Isaiah 55:8-9
There is the long way and short way with almost anything. When I graduated from college, God took me the long way. I walked in May, took a math class in June, and received my diploma in August. It wasn’t easy to do that, but I feel accomplished and I was able to spend more time with my family and with people back home. At this point in time I am raising support for the ministry to which God has called me. Since the beginning I’ve said it’s been slow, a slow process of raising my full support. I look at others and see what seems like a fast support raising process, and it’s a bit discouraging when I look at my journey compared to theirs. God is moving, it’s just different, it’s slower, but God knows who we are and what we need. He knows our past, present and future. How can I compare my journey to theirs when God has different plans and purposes for their lives. I feel God is trying to slow me down, let me take a slow stroll with Him about the garden in the cool of the day, just to smell the roses. He says, “Slow down, you don’t need to rush, rushing makes you anxious, which makes you worry. I don’t want you to worry my dear child. Have peace, have joy, and rest in Me. I have a plan. I’ve got this under control. All you need to do is seek Me in faith and live the life I’ve called you to live. I’ll take it from there. Don’t worry about all the little details, I have them covered. Just wait and see.” My journey may not look the same as someone else’s, and it might not be as fast as someone else’s, but I’m still learning and growing like them, it’s just different because I’m ME, not them.
“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mothers womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous - how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.” - Psalm 139:13-16
“Commit everything to the Lord. Trust Him, and He will help you.” - Psalm 37:5
