Art Ministry

Posted on Saturday, June 17, 2017

Partnership is a key part of working for God’s kingdom in Rome. Most of our inspiring and effective projects include a collaboration component. This month’s interactive art exhibit proved no different. Our community was blessed by the hard work of a short-term team that visited from Ohio. They created an installation to be taken throughout the city that invites passersby to consider the catalysts and impacts of trafficking.

Our ReachGlobal team is highly active in awareness raising and outreach in response to the large prostitution and sex-trafficking problem here. An outstanding artist friend from this American church decided to take part of this fight for liberty and justice. Hours of work, support raising, and innumerable prayers were poured into this event.

Blessed by the talents of the whole group, my team was able to enter conversations with all who chose to walk the path of masterpiece. Two curtained rooms detailed the current state of trafficking in Italy. I was shocked by the overwhelmingly positive response from the Italians who participated. The piece was so powerful that people stayed to discuss the issue asked for more information, and at times chose to leave e-mails to keep in touch.

However, the art didn’t simply seek to unveil a masked problem. Proposed solutions included both immediate and long-term ways to seek justice. We also had the opportunity to direct people to our organization, speak about our faith, and put Christ’s call into action.

We praise God for the generosity of all who made this meaningful event possible. And we ask for prayers that the next short-term team will have a similarly smooth and successful stay. At the beginning of July we will host an English day camp for middle and high school students. Thanks for all who sustain this ministry!
