Early Thanksgiving

Posted on Tuesday, November 15, 2016

There has been a lot going on recently in Rome. With many fall activities, incoming teammates, and constantly growing relationships, I’ve had a packed schedule. Praise God for moments of rest found when I most need them. After an exceptional yet exhausting weekend, I am rested and ready for the remainder of the busy season. Before plunging on ahead, I want to pause to tell you about Saturday.

My organization, ReachGlobal, emphasizes Kingdom building unity and partnerships. So we were excited to help when asked by another missions group here in Rome through the U.S. organization Cru. They hosted an early Thanksgiving event to hang out with students and share some stories of Christian faith. This year, some of my teammates and I went to help cook, serve, and clean. That way, the others can focus on the guests and conversations.

We had a wonderful time! For one thing, it was fun to prepare (and eat!) American food. But it was also a great opportunity for a day of collaboration. I loved simply getting to participate in an act of service. No stress—just cooking, cleaning, and chatting with the other helpers. We even had a bit of time to hang out with the people who came. I’m praying that the event showed people the joy of being in Christian community and spoke to some hearts about the transforming power of Jesus. I’m so grateful for the day we spent working and laughing together, and I’m glad there are many people working here in Rome to spread truth and light!
