On the morning of my departure, a brief interlude emerges to give a final moments rest between yesterday and tomorrow. The past few weeks threatened to burst my schedule at the seams, it was so full of plans. Naturally, countless good-byes and plenty of “lasts” kept me quite busy. I sincerely enjoyed every moment of it but also feel the sting of failing to fit everyone and everything into my increasingly fleeting time.
Despite some disappointments, I confess I’m more excited than ever to begin this journey. I shouldn’t be stunned by the incomprehensible peace blanketing this transition. The well-known promise of Philippians 4:6-7 loudly proclaims its truth in my life. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” God graciously granted this peace, and I pray it continues during the months ahead.
However, I hope to take the changes one day at a time and strive to serve joyfully. For the moment, I am content with the knowledge that my bags are packed, my paperwork is in hand, and that God is prepared for whatever comes next. As my father always says, “It’s in God’s hands, and that’s the best place for anything to be.” So I turn over my life, today and every day, with a verbal and committed submission of self. “Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Let Your good Spirit lead me on level ground.” Psalm 143:10. And let it be, “…to the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen.” Romans 16:27.
