I’ve done a great deal of traveling during my transition from college life to preparing for Rome. In this time, I have slept in 11 different beds, eaten in 13 homes, received 36 meals or snacks at the sacrifice of others and shared food with over 100 people. Comparing that to the 1 bed and 7 people I ate with in a typical month at school reveals the extraordinary generosity others have shown me over the past month.
As much as I love playing host and enjoy providing mattresses and meals for others, I have sensed God’s goodness in new and profound ways during this season of receiving. All of the people who have blessed me with their presence, food, and pillows beautifully reflect God’s image. I am stunned and humbled by God’s glory. I am nearly incapable of comprehending the goodness of my friends and family—I can’t even begin to fathom the goodness of God!
I praise the Lord for each person who has left footprints on the muddy road that makes my life such a joyful adventure. Through all of them, I have glimpsed the unconditional love, forgiveness, encouragement, and advice that is perfectly available in Christ. It is clear to me that all of these people have tapped into that well of living water and welcomed the transforming qualities of the drink they received. With God’s grace, I will also return to the well of Christ’s love and Truth several times a day to be transformed and refined.
I’m pleased to discover that, while my formal education is done, my learning will never be complete. God and others continue teaching me, and I welcome every lesson. With the trials undoubtedly nestled in my future, I am deeply grateful for the people who help me and bring such joy into my life. To all who are so loving and gracious, thank you for enriching my life and empowering me to serve abroad. Your service to me is appreciated now and remains effective later!
