Peace and Passion

Posted on Thursday, May 28, 2015

Everyone facing a life transition fears that one question that is, unfortunately, most likely to be posed. "What are your plans for after college?" I now love that question far more than I ever hated it. Not only do I actually have a plan, but I am walking boldly onto the path to which God has directed me. I never guessed I would go to Italy. However, I have peace beyond expression regarding my upcoming move to Rome and passion for my tasks and the setting I'm entering.

While the typical worries manage to haunt me occasionally, I am energized and excited about the work I will be doing and the new place to call home. After years and years of knowing I would serve abroad, I finally had a destination. Two years is not the life commitment I once thought characteristic of missionaries. Two years is much less scary than forever. But two years is also long enough for me to settle in, make significant relationships, and have a realistic vision of Italy, Italians, and myself as a missionary. Wherever the Spirit sends me after this, I hope to absorb every ounce of knowledge--and food--possible while I strive to be a Christ-like teacher and friend in a new place.
