I arrived in Mexico City on Monday, October 12th. I've been here 8 days, which isn't long at all, but it strangely feels like a month. The very first night I had the pleasure in joining my team leader, Joshua Smith and his wife Naomi, on a taco outing to meet some of their friends. As we entered the restaurant, I was greeted with a hug and kiss on the right side of my cheek by 4 other people we were meeting. Soon after, they introduced me to true Mexican tacos, which ended up being the best tacos I've ever had! That same night, I met the Smith's three children. Three beautiful red heads greeted me as I walked through the door and they immediately helped me feel so welcomed and comfortable. Since then, my times with the kids consist of pillow fights, doggy piles (running and jumping on each other on my bed), tickle fights, and making up songs with their guitar. These times with them have been some of the best moments so far. Kids give me the greatest joy, so I think it’s helped me begin to adjust to Mexico well.
I think this city is growing on me. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect before arriving but I truly believe this city contains immense beauty. The people I’ve met so far are so kind and wonderful. The city is filled with so much color and the food is always amazing. However, among all of these great things, there is obvious pain and need for Christ in this city. I continue to pray that God helps me see what He sees and to love the way He loves. I want to be used radically by God, to be willing to step out in boldness and faith, and to be part of the great things God is doing here in Mexico City.
